The Level 3 Early Years Educator apprenticeship develops the knowledge and practical competence needed to support babies and young children through care, learning and development.
Who should consider Level 3?
It may suit nursery practitioners, early years workers, pre-school assistants and other staff whose role includes planning and delivering activities, observing development, safeguarding children and working professionally with families and colleagues.
What does the apprenticeship cover?
- Child development from birth and the factors that influence it
- The Early Years Foundation Stage and curriculum practice
- Safeguarding, health, safety and inclusive practice
- Observation, assessment and planning for individual children
- Communication with parents, carers and professionals
- Supporting speech, language, literacy and numeracy
- Professional behaviours, reflection and continuous development
How long does it take?
Programmes commonly involve around 18 months of practical training before end-point assessment, although duration depends on the provider, working pattern and recognition of prior learning.
Does it make you a qualified nursery practitioner?
The apprenticeship includes the occupational standard and an approved Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification. The precise “full and relevant” status of a qualification should be checked against the current Department for Education qualification requirements.
English and maths
Your provider will assess any applicable English and maths requirements and available exemptions. Do not assume that missing GCSEs automatically prevents you from applying.
Progression
Experienced Level 3 practitioners can move into senior practitioner, room leader or specialist responsibilities, and may later consider the Level 5 Early Years Lead Practitioner apprenticeship.
